HeadStart

The Point is committed to providing dance
opportunities for everyone and as part of this we present
HeadStart, an annual showcase of dance work by boys and young
men.
The platform takes place in the spring of each
year and is always an energetic, vibrant event with around 100
young male dancers performing to a sell-out audience.
Now in it's 8th year, Headstart 2012 saw over
100 boys perform at The Point on Saturday 3rd March. Watched
by an audience of over 200, dancers as young as 7yrs right up to
young adults of 20yrs presented a fantastic evening of male dance.
In total 10 groups participated with nearly half the performers
never having danced in front of a live audience before.
As well as the main evening performance, this years' dancers
also had the chance to take part in one off
workshops provided by The Place, London. The workshops, aimed
at offering a taste of The Place Centre for Advanced Training,
were lead by professional Male dancer and ex London Contemporary
Dance School student Aaron Vickers, who also comes from the
Eastleigh area and has previously been a member of local male dance
company FuzzyLogic.
Heres what some of the 2012 groups had to
say;
“HeadStart gave our dancers the unique
opportunity to perform in a professional venue and provides a
vital awareness of boys dance"
“HeadStart has been a great experience and
great exposure for the boys”
“HeadStart has been a great day for
the boys and its increased their commitment to dance back at
school”
