2009 was an exciting time for The Point as we saw the completion
of our ambitious Phase3 space officially opened by Akram Khan on
12th November.
2010 is set to be even more thrilling as we put the new building
to use and welcome companies and artists to be truly in residence
at The Point utilising the adjoining living accommodation to the
145m2 light filled creation space.
Lone Twin theatre will be our first
resident company of 2010 who will be using the new space in January
to put the finishing touches to their final instalment of their
Catastrophe Trilogy. All three shows in the trilogy will then
be presented in one day here at The Point in March.
We are also delighted to announce that Balletboyz will premiere the work of their new
company of eight young male dancers this season. Resident at The
Point throughout February the company will finalise their mixed
programme of brand new commissions plus an exciting reworking of
Russell Maliphant’s Torsion.
Point associate company Lîla Dance will
also premiere their new work with Italian choreographer Simona
Bertozzi before embarking on a regional tour and we welcome back
Candoco Dance Company with a special preview of new work by three
international choreographers.
There’s plenty, as always for our family audiences and The
Point’s Gap Rep company return with The
Tempest. Also making a welcome return this season is Welsh
National Opera and Winchester based artist Joe Bone.
Last, but by no means least we welcome the arrival of The
Point’s new director Sarah Brigham, who starts this January. Sarah
joins us from her position as Associate Director of Dundee Rep.
Wishing you all the best for 2010!
