Monday

Feet First Youth Dance Company

7.45pm – 9.15pm  (15 - 18 years)

Contemporary dance based performance company for senior members of the group. The class covers technique, choreography and performance. As a company member you will create and perform a new piece each term with the rehearsal director. Feet First perform locally and in the southern region. As a member you will also have access to professional guest artists who work on various projects throughout the year. Each term the company regularly watches professional dance companies too. You will have to be committed, enthusiastic and passionate about dance. 

Minimum commitment of a 10 week term.

Tuesday

Adult Contemporary Dance

5.30pm - 6.15pm  (open level)

We are delighted to say that Lîla Dance, the associate company to The Point will be leading the contemporary dance sessions. These classes are aimed for all dance enthusiasts from students to teachers to those who have had prior knowledge of dance but years ago! The class is based in release technique and is suitable for those who have a good level of fitness.

Adult Contemporary Performance Group

6.15pm - 7.00pm

To enrol on these sessions you must be booked onto one of our adult contemporary dance classes. The sessions will be creatively orientated and you will devise work with others as well as exploring your own ideas.  This session can really benefit those studying and teaching dance and those who simply enjoy being creative. Created work will lead to future performances by the group.

Adult Contemporary Dance

(Advanced – high level of experience essential)

The advanced group has developed into a fast paced, expert technique class, which requires dancers with a high level of skill, experience and fitness. If you are unsure which class to join, please contact the dance department before joining.

Adult Tap           

8.30pm - 9.30pm (intermediate)

Intermediate level. A class catering for those who wish to advance their tap knowledge. A fun and challenging session developing your tap skills to the best musical theatre show tunes! The class will cover technique as well as developing new routines. Tap shoes required.

Wednesday

 

Adult Ballet

10.00am - 11.15am (intermediate)  

Some experience is necessary. The techniques of classical ballet taught in a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. A great way to keep fit as you will be pushed and challenged! Please wear ballet shoes if you have them but they are not a necessity.

Belly Dance    

11.15am - 12.15pm

Open level. A great way to have fun and keep fit. Learn how to belly dance and see how this exotic art form can increase suppleness, improve posture and reduce stress. Suitable for adults of all ages, sizes and abilities.

Hip hop / street dance

7.30pm - 8.30pm beginners 14 years +

8.30pm – 9.30pm  intermediate 14 years +  

Learn the latest hip-hop style and funky moves - as seen on MTV. You will start with a warm up and then be led through various routines each term. This is a great way to keep in shape and to build stamina and endurance. Advanced level has opportunities to perform during the year and this is optional for participants in discussion with the teacher.

Thursday

Adult Tap

12.15pm - 1.00pm

Open level. Beginners welcome. Noisy and great fun! Learn basic tap steps and routines to all the classic show tunes.  Please wear hard soled shoes that you can make a noise with.

Capoeira

8.00pm - 9.15pm (open level)

Open level. Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which combines martial arts, dance and acrobatics. It originated amongst slaves in Brazil as a form of self defense, disguised as a dance. This class will teach you the basics of this stunning art form in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Suitable for adults of all ages and abilities.(Reasonable level of fitness required)

Adult Ballet

6.30pm – 7.30pm (intermediate)

Beginners level. Have you ever wanted to start ballet but feel it is too late?…..then this is the class for you! Aimed at participants 14+, this class will cater for beginners and also those who have some knowledge of ballet from the past and want to brush up on their skills. The class will be fun, challenging and is ideal for those wishing to audition for Higher Education courses that require a ballet audition. Led by Lewis Tribbeck

  

Intermediate level. This class caters for those who desire to further their skills and technique in ballet. This class will be challenging and experience is essential. Ballet shoes are recommended.

Salsa

No partner needed.

Salsa dancing is exciting, energetic, friendly, and fun! Taught by UKA trained teacher, will take you to social dance level. Take the first step – it could change your life!

Appropriate dance footwear should be worn.
