StopGAP
StopGAP is a dance company that challenges traditional notions
about dance by using each dancer's physical and intellectual
potential as a starting point for creating new work. They work
from a philosophy of physical, psychological and social
integration. In so doing, they recognise and celebrate
individuality and the differences between people whilst continually
seeking artistic and technical excellence in all that they do.
StopGAP's vision is to create a world continually
searching for what can be done, refusing to accept the phrase
It cannot be
done.StopGAP's
mission is to bring to the public forum clear demonstrations of
what can be achieved through the true spirit of integration using
the medium of dance. Its aim is to make work that is
empowering, engaging, entertaining and accessible whilst
challenging creative, technical and artistic complacency.
At the heart of the company’s work is the creation of
opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to have access
to dance, particularly those who are traditionally denied access
whether due to service provision or self belief.
StopGap recently performed its world premiere The
Portfolio collection here at The Point - bringing
together seven choreographers – including emerging talent from
within the company – for a flexible menu of dances that can be
adopted and adapted for each touring venue.
