Battle of the bands

Battle of the bandsEvery year we run a battle of the bands to decide who will have the chance to play the mainstage at the Eastleigh Music Festival. For the last two years we have received many entries from great young, local bands. Three bands are then picked to play in front of music industry professionals on the main stage at the festival before the winner is picked and awarded a chance to record an album at a pro recording studio.

TrashbasherZ

TrashbasherZ was a collaboration between the Point Out team, The D@rt Centre in Hedge End at Wildern School and Weapons of Sound funded by Youth Music.  Weapons of Sound led taster sessions and a residency for pupils of Wildren School – making Trasherbasherzinstruments from junk, learning and composing pieces of music and giving a final performance. The focus was on developing creativity, self-esteem, teamwork and performance skills to the young people who have little or no access to music making sources.   The project was such a success that the group met regularly after the residency, performed at local festivals and recorded a CD of original material.

Composer in Residence

The Composer In Residence project was held at Eastleigh Borough Council Civic Offices over a period of 6 months - open to all Composer in residence Council staff.  Film composer Andrew Daniels led weekly composition workshops using lap top computers and the latest industry standard audio software.  The participants created pieces of music that can be performed, shared online or recorded. The project was funded by Performing Rights Society.

Music in Care Homes 2

In Stage 2 of the Music In Care Homes the Point Out team worked in collaboration with the University Of Southampton and Friends Of Fernhill Sheltered Housing.  Residents at Fernhill received regular participatory music sessions led by community musician Andrew Knights and student volunteers from the university.  The students and Friends Of Fernhill were trained in how to work with the elderly and frail through music, and were provided with instruments to help them lead future sessions.
