Ray Gelato's Giants
At the Concorde
Club
Wednesday 1st April at 9pm
BBC Jazz Awards Heart of Jazz Award Nominee
2008 (for the 3rd time!)
Ray Gelato is probably the UK’s foremost
exponent of swinging good-time jazz who has performed privately for
Paul McCartney and the Queen amongst many others! Following in the
footsteps of Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong & Cole Porter, Gelato
has been getting audiences jumpin’ & jivin’ since he picked up
the saxophone in the late ‘70s. He has recorded several albums as
both a leader & sideman, but it is in his live performances
where his energy really comes to the fore. Gelato makes a welcome
return to the club, his driving tenor & effervescent vocals
backed up by his stunning band, the Giants, with Danny Marsden
(trumpet), Alex Garnett (saxophones), Andy Rogers
(trombone), Gunther Kuermayr (piano), Mike
Janisch (bass) & Elliott Henshaw
(drums).
'Nobody else dares treat British jazz audiences with such
blatant showmanship.'
Evening Standard
'Taking swing to the masses….sheer fun and enjoyment.'
